The 2026 Cumann na mBunscol football finals came to a thrilling conclusion at Laois Hire O’Moore Park on Thursday, with ten more titles decided on the second day of action.
Killenard NS enjoyed a particularly memorable afternoon as they completed a remarkable Division 1 double, winning both the Boys and Girls Championship titles. T
he boys dethroned defending champions Holy Family SS with an impressive 5-5 to 2-4 victory, before the girls followed suit by overcoming Killeshin 2-9 to 2-6 in an entertaining encounter.
Holy Family SS also had plenty to celebrate, claiming two Division 6 Championship titles.
St Colman’s NS Stradbally were another school celebrating double success on Thursday.
Their girls got the day underway with a 2-12 to 2-6 victory over Gaelscoil Phortlaoise in the Division 2 Shield final, with Heidi Lynch scoring two crucial second-half goals. The Stradbally boys later added the Division 6 Shield title, defeating Scoil Mhuire Fatima Timahoe 4-12 to 3-5.
Timahoe did not leave O’Moore Park empty-handed, however, as their girls edged out Camross NS in an extraordinary Division 3 Shield final.
In one of the most dramatic encounters of the day, Timahoe emerged victorious by the narrowest of margins on a scoreline of 7-6 to 7-5, with an incredible 14 goals scored between the sides.
There was further excitement in the Division 1 Boys Shield final, where Killeshin snatched a dramatic 4-4 to 3-6 victory over St Patrick’s BNS Portarlington.
A late intervention from Coakley deep into injury time proved decisive as Killeshin secured a memorable one-point win.
Knock NS also celebrated silverware following a high-scoring Division 4 Girls Shield final against Ballinakill NS. Knock produced an excellent attacking display to record a 10-10 to 8-2 victory, with Miller playing a starring role in their championship success.
The final game of the afternoon saw St Joseph’s GNS Mountmellick bring the curtain down on the two-day event with a 4-9 to 1-5 victory over St Fiacc’s Graiguecullen in the Division 1 Girls Shield final.
Late goals from Lauren Smith and Poppy Gorman sealed the win and provided a fitting conclusion to a hugely successful week of primary school football, which saw 24 finals contested at Laois Hire O’Moore Park.
